ATPI 2014



Winter Conference and Workshop will be hosted by Austin Community College in February 2014.

This is ATPI's 26th year offering workshops dedicated solely to scholastic photography instruction. Previous workshops have been held at University of Texas - Austin, University of Texas - Arlington, Texas A&M University - Commerce.

6 - 9 pm - reception and vendor show at Precision Camera

10 am - registration opens
11 am - information meeting for students competing in on-site contests
11:30 am - on-site contests begin - digital image, scavenger hunt, video, faculty digital
noon - all carry-in contests due - environmental portrait, school portfolio, picture package
(we'll do a working lunch in order to judge)
1 pm - digital editing and Cropped contests begin
1:30 pm - digital image, scavenger hunt contests due
1:45 - 2:35 pm - Session 1, final two rounds of Cropped

About ATPI  

The Association of Texas Photography Instructors, a 501(c)(3) organization with headquarters in Arlington, provides information and resources to teachers and students that work with photography, whether in art, journalism, industrial technology or vocational curriculum areas.

ATPI publishes a newsletter two to three times a year that is sent to all members and to others interested in news about photography or the association. ATPI annually recognizes the top photography programs in the state. ATPI recognizes individuals and companies that have contributed to photographic education in Texas. ATPI recognizes the top individual student photographers in Texas. Since 1994, ATPI has held a summer workshop for instructors only. Each winter, hosts a statewide conference, this year to be held in Austin, for about 300 photography students and their instructors. For more information about ATPI, visit atpi.org.

In addition, ATPI annually sponsors a fall photography submitted print competition for students and teachers that includes a variety of categories including video and computer imaging. The 2011 ATPI Contest had more than 6,100 entries from around the state, Arizona, California, Kansas, Oklahoma and New York.
ATPI:  STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES
The aims and objectives of this organization shall be educationally oriented. The primary objectives of the Association shall be:
  • To develop a state-wide organization for all photography instructors in Texas;
  • To increase and sustain the instructional level of photography as a communicative field at all levels of the Texas educational system;
  • To impart to the students, teachers, schools and the state an understanding of the role and purposes of photography in today’s society; and
  • To provide to our members information and experiences that will allow them to develop and improve their teaching.
